Canopy

Conventional wisdom from other builers was that it is easier to construct the cowling and canopy after the installtion of the engine, so that is what I did. Fortunately, I had some fibre glass experience from the work on my Europa, and that helped a lot. Constructing the engine cowling was fairly straightforward, but the method of securing the cowling to the forward firewall called for a piano hinge to be utilised, and getting the centre pin to bend around almost 90 degrees at the sides proved extremely difficult and time consuming. I eventually got it to work after many hours of trying. The fibre glass skirt around the front of the canopy failed at one point, probably due to air between the layers, but it wasn't too difficult to repair it with a sandwich of fibreglass, and filler insert.
