The "canoe" had been started by the previous builder, who had completed about 20% of the work required. One of my first tasks was to check that I had all the remaining components to complete this stage of the build, which involved identifying each part from the parts list. Once this was completed, I picked up from where the previous builder had left off. As I contemplated the next job from the KAI (Kit Assembly Instructions), I looked closely at the holes that had been cut in the fuselage sides, where the wing spars would enter. On close inspection, I discovered that the hole on the port side had been cut out of the correct position. Worryingly, I thought I may have to remove the full fuselage side, and arrange for another to be delivered from Vans. However, on contacting Vans Support Department, I found that this wasn't the first time this had happened to one of their kits, and they had a work-around already in place to deal with it. This involved rivetting a face plate to cover the incorrect hole, and cutting out the new hole from where it should have been in the first place. Much easier than replacing the whole side !
